Oxford United are celebrating after two girls from their Centre of Excellence reached the second stage of England trials.

It is the first time the U’s have seen any member of their squad make it through.

Demi Lambourne, goalkeeper for the under 16 side, and Ella Franklin-Fraiture, a midfielder for the under 14s, will attend the second phase of trials at the Hive Football Centre in Barnet later this month.

Lambourne, who is 14, lives in Bicester and goes to Cooper School.

Franklin, 13, is from Oxford and attends Cherwell School.

She played for Summertown Stars in the Oxford Mail Girls League, before joining United in September 2008.

United chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “Oxford United are very pleased with Demi’s and Ella’s news.

“The club, all the staff and players have worked very hard to bring elite female football to Oxfordshire.

“We are proud of the development we offer and are very excited about the future.

“Demi and Ella have worked very hard to achieve what they have and everyone would like to wish the girls the best of luck at the next England camp.”
