Masons Arms B moved five points clear at the top of Section 1 – but will be rueing a missed opportunity after losing 3-2 to Democrats Club, writes PETE EWINS.

Despite extending their lead over Comrades Club, Masons blew the chance to go well clear.

Terry Green put Democrats in front with a 5,240-2,840 win over Andy Webb, but the undefeated Dave Butt, with his eighth win of the season, beat Billy Hill to level.

Chris Webb then played out the table with 18,230 to put the leaders 2-1 up.

However, John Patey beat Phil Light 8,690-2,180 to square the match, before Bob Parsons saw off Ernie Smith 4,330-2,440 in the decider to give Democrats victory.

Vikings A beat Masons A 4-1 in their rearranged Scotlands Ash Cup quarter-final match.

Alan Oliver (8,650) and Bob Allsworth (6,640) put Vikings 2-0 ahead, and although Maxi McDonnell pulled a game back after scoring 9,790, Alan Lacey and Ian Moss secured a comfortable victory.

Vikings now face Masons B in the semi-final.
