Chris Wilder will make changes to Oxford United’s starting line-up on Sunday – in a match he hopes could kick-start his side’s season.

The U’s have lost four of their last five games, and while the performances have not been too bad, the U’s boss knows it’s results that count.

And after a disappointing second-half display against ten-man Torquay on Tuesday, Wilder says he will tinker with his side.

“Nobody outside of our changing room will be expecting us to get anything from the game,” he said.

“Maybe an FA Cup game, away from home, might be exactly what we need to get going again.”

Wilder would not be drawn on what changes he will make, but after coming through 90 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Northampton in midweek, Simon Clist is likely to start.

The virtual ever-present last season has been hit by injury this campaign.

Now fit, Clist is expected to come into midfield and add some experience.

Steven Kinniburgh is another pushing for a recall.

The left back has been forced to play second fiddle to Anthony Tonkin this season, but may get his chance to impress.

Up front, Wilder must decide how to solve their goal drought which has seen the U’s score in just one game out of their last four.

“There was anxiety all around on Tuesday night,” he said.

“The last thing we really needed to do was concede an early goal. But we did, and then when we failed to take some of the great chances we created, everyone got uptight.

“But we’ve got a chance to put everything right and get a positive result at Burton.

“If we can’t win the game, we have to make sure that we bring them back to our place.”

Both sides will already know their second-round opponents with the draw taking place an hour before they kick-off.

“We’re in the hat for the second round whatever,” he added.

“But we have to make sure we’re still in it at 5 o’clock Sunday afternoon.”

Burton will be without Darren Moore after the big defender picked up his fifth booking of the season in their midweek draw with Port Vale.

Tony James, back from a month-long loan spell at Hereford, should deputise.

Striker Greg Pearson (ankle) is a doubt, while left-winger Aaron Webster should be fit to play despite a sore calf.
