Tim Small, boss at Lechlade Trout Fishery, is appealing to anglers to put back any pike caught in his lakes.

You might think he would prefer them to be dispatched, but in his latest newsletter, he says: “Please leave my pike alone!

“ I like them and they do no harm, so if you catch one, please return carefully.”

Last month, Lechlade Lake hosted 440 anglers who had 1,299 fish, 111 of which were doubles and 39 were browns.

The largest brownie was just under 15lb and the best rainbow 16.10.0.

Gerald Stratford, of Kiddington, had a 38lb bag.

On Bushyleaze, 450 anglers had 1,850 fish, with plenty of 5-6lb fish coming out. Bests rainbow was just under 7lb.
