My efforts to catch a big barbel from the River Kennet have been rewarded by a personal best fish of 12.15.0, writes Andy Webber.
Plenty of other barbel have come to my net, most of them in single figures, but I also caught another double of 10.1.0 from Burghfield.
After catching that pb fish, I moved to another section of the river and my best from there has been 12.6.0, so overal I’m pretty pleased with my efforts.
As winter beckons, in the last few weeks I have been travelling to Brickhill Farm Fishery, near Eydon, which is between Banbury and Daventry, to have a go at the large perch.
This is a nice little fishery with plenty of fish to catch, plus there are toilets on site and you can also buy a breakfast.
There are two lakes, run by Brian Rose. A day ticket costs £7 for two rods, and what I like is there are not too many regulations.
The perch are quite big, with plenty of three and four-pounders and there is one known fish which weighed 6.1.0 when it was last caught.
So far, my visits have produced only carp, but watch this space!
