Didcot Town are set to give a debut to striker Dave Lawrence after signing him from Central Division 1 side North Greenford United.

The former Hillingdon Borough and Uxbridge frontman will play in Saturday's Premier Division trip to high-flying Chesham United, should the paperwork be ready in time.

Boss Stuart Peace is a long-time admirer of Lawrence, 24, who has netted seven goals in 14 appearances this season.

He scored 24 goals for the Hillingdon side that reached the final of the FA Vase in 2006, when they lost 3-1 to Natwich Town in the final at Birmingham City.

“I’m delighted to get him, David is a proven goalscorer,” said Peace, whose side are boosted by their midweek League Cup win at Abingdon United.

“He is a stocky lad and has a good track record as a scorer which ever club he has been at. He likes to play off the shoulder of the last defender.

“David is a player I have known for a while. I have tried to sign him for Didcot before, but the timing wasn’t right.

“I had a tip-off from a friend in football who said he might be available. I feel he may offer us something different.”

Lawrence could be joined by midfielder Michael Alexis who faces a fitness test on a thigh injury, while Osborne-Ricketts is back from suspension.

Jason Costello is banned, while their No 2 keeper Tom Bucknor is still out injured.

Peace is expecting a tough encounter against the fourth-placed side.

“It will be a difficult game. They are going well and are well organised. We have played well against the better sides.

“We’ve got some games coming up against some top teams, so we need to get on a good run.”

Goalkeeper Richard Barrett makes his Oxford City debut as they look to for their third win in all competitions, away to Cirencester Town.

Barrett, 24, who has signed from North Leigh is joined by striker Lee Steele, who is back at Court Place Farm after joining from Evo-Stik Premier Division side Ashton United.

Boss Mike Ford said: “The signings of Richard and Lee have given us a base from which we can move forward.

“I have no problem with the performances or the attitude of the players, but we are second from bottom of the league and it’s all about results.

“And with the two results and Lee coming in we need to look to push on. We have got to continue to scrap and grind out some results.

“It’s not like the season’s starting again, it’s more of a continuation of what we have been doing.”

Ford, who a year ago was preparing his players for an FA Cup first-round visit to Burton, which they lost 3-2, added: “Last season we had that glorious defeat and this year we are having a relegation fight, but that’s how it goes.”

Banbury United boss Billy Jeffrey says his players have nothing to lose at home to third-placed Salisbury looking to break their home league duck.

So far, Banbury have lost four of their seven home games, and Jeffrey says the pressure is all on the visitors.

Jeffrey, who hopes to welcome back midfielder Joe Coleman after a five-week ankle injury lay-off, said: “I have had reports that Salisbury are a better side than Farnborough were when they won the league last year. No one expects us to win, so we have nothing to lose.

“We’ll go out and give it a go. If we work as hard as we possibly can then we could get a decent result.”

Banbury are without the suspended Jason Taylor.

Abingdon United face a trip to Bishops Cleeve in Division 1 South & West.
