Expect there to be movement in the transfer market over the next few days.

United manager Chris Wilder believes he needs to bring players in to take the team up a level, and some players seem certain to go out as well as come in.

But he’s adamant the 4-3-3 system is not to blame, pointing out that it’s what has brought the team success many times.

Managers are judged first and foremost by results, and secondly by the signings they make, which often go hand in hand.

As he approaches his second anniversary in charge, he can look back on improving the squad bit by bit.

But it’s a critical time for United between now and Chr-istmas, because they can’t afford for the dip in form to become more serious.

While there was more pressure in trying to get out of the Blue Square Premier, it’s also clear that League Two is an unforgiving division, especially at the bottom.

Wilder said after the 2-0 midweek defeat by Torquay: “We’ve had to make big decisions in the past, look at Luke Foster, Billy Turley, and Adam Murray.

“If some players have to go out to get better players in, that’s how it has to be.

“I have to decide if we are good enough, and if we are mentally tough enough to handle the league.

“Some days we have been, on others we have been poor.

“We have some good players, but there was a definite lack of confidence in the second half.

“That changes with a goal and with a win so we have to make sure we get back on track as soon as possible.”
