Precision Break goes for glory for Paul Cole’s Whatcombe stables, near Wantage, in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon (8.10pm) at Churchill Downs tomorrow.
The five-year-old, winner of nine of his 21 starts, was last seen finishing down the field in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket.
But the 16-1 chance, who won the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting on his previous outing, delighted Cole’s son and assistant, Oliver, in a spin at the Kentucky track this week.
“In his favour is that he has won over the trip, he is American-bred and he’s been on the all-weather before,” said Cole jnr.
“The question is how far removed from our all-weather is the US dirt, but he’s certainly giving us the right signals.”
