Somersby made a couple of costly errors on the way to finishing third to Tchico Polos in the totesport.com Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter on Tuesday.
The six-year-old, trained by Henrietta Knight at West Lockinge, near Wantage, took the minor honours behind Paul Nicholls’s Tchico Polos and Twist Magic.
Knight said: “He ran very well and if he hadn’t fumbled two in the straight he’d have been very close.”
Iconoclast took the three-mile handicap chase for Alex Hales’s Edgcote yard, near Banbury.
