Banbury recorded their first Premier Division 1 win in the South League with a 5-2 victory over relegation-threatened Maidstone.

Banbury took the initiative from the off and piled on the pressure, but it was Maidstone who scored first on the break through Greg Laurenson.

However, it was not long before Banbury took control and two short-corner conversions from Matthew Bull and Simon Boardman were just reward for their hard labour.

Adrian Simons made it 3-1 after half-time after great work from Will Powell, who then scored one himself to kill off the game.

The moment of the match came when Australian Andy Philpott jinxed his way past the defence and the keeper before cashing in to score his first goal of the season.

Late on, with Simons and Craig Larner sin-binned, Banbury had to withstand Maidstone pressure but Chris Boyle made some crucial saves.

Yet he could do nothing about Laurenson's second for Maidstone late on.

This Saturday Banbury tra-vel to Teddington, who will have former Great Britain legend Calum Giles in their side.

Giles scored 110 goals for GB and England.

Oxford Hawks played their best hockey of the season as they hammered Epsom 5-2 in Premier 2, with Dave Cresswell bagging a hat-trick.

They went in front after ten minutes with a short-corner drag flick from Cresswell.

Tim Martin continued his goal-a-game’ run, scoring with a diving hit at the top of the D.

Cresswell scored a second short corner and Hawks maintained their good form in the second half, Nick Lamb marshalling the defence from left half and Rob Miller running the centre of the pitch.

Cresswell completed his hat-trick with a ferocious flick into the roof of the net from a short corner.

Epsom pulled one back, Nick Ferraby restored Hawks’ four-goal lead from another short corner, and in the dying minutes, Epsom scored a consolation short corner.

The win puts Hawks in equal top position with Tulse Hill whom they have yet to play.

A depleted Wallingford suffered a 10-0 hammering at home to table-topping West Hampstead in the MBB&O Regional division.

Andy Wynd smashed in four goals as Rover Oxford got their season back on track.

After only one win from their opening four games, they won 8-3 at West Hampstead 2nd.

Rover were three up in ten minutes with Wynd shooting home on the turn and getting a second on the break, rounding the keeper before flicking high into the net.

In between, Daniel Smyth dispatched a short corner.

Wynd completed an eight-minute hat-trick before Ham-pstead pulled it back to 4-3.

Rover then went into overdrive. Wynd got his fourth, James Neilsen grabbed two for himself and Rich Beer notched his first of the season after good work by Dan Pilbeam.

Also in Regional 2, City of Oxford seem to be struggling.

Despite creating just as many chances as their opponents, they crashed 5-0 at home to Eastcote 2nd.

Starting poorly, they could not keep possession and soon found themselves two goals down.

Then they pinned Eastcote back with four short corners in a row only to concede again on the break from a short corner, which ended the contest.
