Paulton Rovers 0

Abingdon Utd 2 (Franklin 35, Mills 49)

Abingdon United turned the form book upside down as they picked up their first win in seven matches in Division 1 South & West.

High-flying Paulton had the edge early on Josh Jeffries going close and Daine O’Connor being denied by Abingdon keeper Jon Beames.

A minute later, Beames again came to the rescue as he smothered Matt Cooper’s shot.

The home side failed to clear a corner and defender Tom Franklin lashed the ball through a crowded six-yard box.

Four minutes after the break, Abingdon doubled their lead.

Melledew’s free-kick was flicked on by Franklin.

The ball ran to Matty Horsell, whose fierce drive was only parried, and John Mills swept home the rebound.

Melledew could have put the game beyond doubt, only to be denied by home keeper Kyle Phillips.

There were eight minutes of stoppage time, but Abingdon held on with no further scares.
