Daventry Town 4 (Howell 10, 77, O’Grady 63, Foster 86)

New signing Mark Pritchard scored on his debut , but could not stop Oxford City falling at the first hurdle to their opponents from the Zamaretto Southern League Division 1 Central.

Daventry took the lead after ten minutes when Russell Dunkley’s cross was touched in by Ryan Howell.

The visiting keeper Andrew Kemp conceded two corners in quick succession before going off with a leg injury.

His replacement, Joe Mel-lings, was beaten by Prit-chard, who converted a cross from the left to level for the Premier Division strugglers.

Daventry’s luck held when Michael Lyon lobbed the keeper, but defender Jason Lee got back to clear.

After the interval, City’s Aaron Woodley beat the keeper to a through ball, but his effort rolled along the front of the goal and was cleared.

Daventry regained the lead in the 63rd minute as a chance shot from Josh O’Grady found the net via a post.

They made it 3-1 when Howell turned in a cross and added a fourth through substitute Rob Foster.
