Wantage Tn 5 (Edney 15, 34, Cattel 44, Claydon 57, 81)

Wantage Town made it 11 goals in two games when they routed Witney in Friday night’s Premier Division clash in the UHL Sport Hellenic league.

Following their 6-1 destruction of Pegasus Juniors in midweek, Wantage are the form team. But it needed a great display of goalkeeping from Gareth Tucker to keep them ahead.

In front of a large crowd of 154, Wantage took a 3-0 interval lead thanks to two goals from Graham Edney, and one from Witney old boy Stuart Cattel just before half-time.

It was the turn of Wantage old boy Sean McKeon to pull a goal back for the hosts after the break, sharply driving in a loose ball past Tucker.

Wantage striker Richard Claydon struck twice in the second half to make the game safe.

In between, Tucker saved a penalty from Joe Tustain after Wantage manager Andy Wallbridge had brought down McKeon immediately after coming on as substitute.

Rayners Lane 2 (Woolley 4, Gardner 56)

Milton, playing their first game at the Heights for three weeks, were well beaten by a disciplined Rayners Lane in Saturday’s Division 1 East match.

The hosts were caught out after only four minutes, when Lane broke away and Dene Gardner scored with a good shot.

Milton were not helped when James Clarke had to be replaced midway through the first half with an injury that could keep him out for a few weeks.

Afterr the break, Rayners Lane added a second goal through Dene Gardner, while Milton had Rob Hudson sent off for a foul.

Purton 1 (Campbell 60)

Letcombe 2 (Horswell 42, 49)

Letcombe gained revenge for their seven-goal mauling in a Division 1 West defeat at Purton four weeks ago to move into the second round of the Bluefin Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup.

The visitors took the lead just before half-time when a pass from Mark Brind sent Pete Horswell racing clear to finish clinically. Early in the second half tthey made it 2-0.

Purton keeper Luke Alford could only palm a corner from Tommy Allen out to Horswell, who volleyed the loose ball into the far corner of the net for his second goal.

Purton reduced the arrears on the hour, Scott Campbell driving the ball low into the corner past new keeper Steve Vaux, who also made some fine saves as the hosts pressed for an equaliser.
