OXFORD City remain winless after falling to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of leaders Cambridge City in the Zameretto Southern League Premier Division last night.

Craig Hammond scored the only goal in the eighth minute.

City’s Ashley Kington went close, but hopes of a comeback ended when Dan Fitchett was sent off for a bad tackle.

Despite an improved display, City were fortunate not to lose by more when, after a handball, Neil Midgley drove wide from the penalty spot late on.

Ten-man Banbury United lost 4-1 at home to Bashley.

Trailing to a fourth-minute goal from Mark Gamble, Declan Benjamin equalised for Banbury on 35 minutes.

Tom Hill restored Bashley’s lead, before Banbury were reduced to ten men in the second half when Nathan Haisley received a second yellow card.

Hill added No 3 on 79 minutes, with Taz Roberts making it 4-1 in injury time.

Abingdon United made it five wins on the trot in Division 1 South & West with a 1-0 victory at Stourport Swifts.

The only goal came in the 21st minute when Jon Gardner fir-ed in Andrew Younie’s cross.

Gardner went close again, before the hosts hit back, striking the bar and forcing Jon Beames into a reaction save.

Jon Mills hit a post as Abingdon looked for No 2, but they were lucky to claim the points when John Griffin also fired against an upright late on.

George Redknap made a sensational start to his second spell at North Leigh.

But his early goal proved in vain as the strugglers lost 2-1 at home to Mangotsfield.

The striker headed home fellow new signing Toby Clark’s free-kick in the fifth minute.

But Tom Knighton equalised on 33 minutes, before five minutes later Andy Gurney headed in what proved the winner.
