ABBA Athletic put behind their disappointment at losing their first game of the season in the Banbury & District Lord Jersey FA with a resounding 8-1 win against Kings Sutton in Division 2.

Star man Matty Drew hit a double including an amazing goal when he took on what seemed like the whole of the Kings Sutton side before scoring.

Five other Abba players were on target.

Colin Gilmer also hit a brace, Richard Checkley, Istvan Godor and Scott Somerville netted, while goalkeeper Jono Drew converted a penalty.

Midfielder Paul Stewart got Kings Sutton’s consolation.

Wroxton Sports and FC Langford fought out a 2-2 draw in an exciting end-to-end contest.

Langford started brightly and nearly took the lead through Simon Gilbey-Turner after good work from Liam Merchant.

They took the lead in the 20th minute when a squared pass to the oncoming Luke Phillips was smashed home.

After that it was all Langford, playing some lovely crisp football.

Phillips curled in a brilliant 25-yard free-kick into the top corner to grab his second.

But just before half-time, some slack defending allowed Wroxton to cross into the box and Daniel Armitage scored.

Wroxton equalised in an open second half after defender Steve Nelson gave away a penalty and Damian Turner converted.

Either side could have won it at the end, and Langford keeper Steve Cullen made a fantastic save, while Lee Dancer hit the bar for Wroxton.

Lee Nix scored twice, including the winner at the death as Highfield OB overcame Heyford Athletic 4-3 in a Division 3 Bicester derby.

Joe Haynes put Heyford ahead before Nix equalised.

Mark Shaw fired the home team into the lead with a floated free-kick which fooled everyone, and Daniel Dyer extended Highfield’s lead straight after half-time.

Heyford did not give up and battled throughout the second half with Craig Farrell making it 3-3.

The momentum was with Heyford as they went in search of a winner, but they let Nix pop up at the other end to snatch victory for Highfield.

Bell Sports won 4-1 at Steeple Aston, who were two up after goals by Scott Clarke and Brett Barns.

Rob Davis increased Bell Sports’ lead on 55 minutes and Mike Hawken made it four before Thomas James pulled one back.
