Aston Rowant are now strong favourites to be relegated from Division 1 of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League after just one season in the top flight following a mammoth 206-run defeat at home to High Wycombe on Saturday.

Wycombe rattled up 301-4 and then shot out Rowant for a measly 95 to leave the 0xfordshire side in the bottom two positions with just one game to play.

Rowant must win their final contest away to title-chasing Henley this Saturday to have a chance of avoiding an immediate return to Division 2 West.

Batting first, Wycombe got off to a flier, with Nitin Sehgal and skipper Matt Eyles adding 186 for the first wicket, before the latter fell for 64.

Sehgal went on to score 138, while Alan Duncan added a rapid unbeaten half-century to take the visitors past 300.

Rowant skipper Wes Morrick bowled throughout the innings, taking 3-140 in a marathon 33 overs.

The Rowant reply was soon in disarray with both openers Tim Morgan and Aaron Todd falling to Irish seamer Peter Connell for ducks as the side slumped to 7-4.

Nathaniel Watkins and Wes Morrick took the score to 39 before the skipper became Paul Sawyer's third victim.

Thereafter, the only resistance came from the enterprising Watkins who made an unbeaten 60 as Rowant were dismissed for 95 in the 35th over, with Dan Senior mopping up the tail.
