OXFORD United are looking to bring in another goalkeeper on loan after Simon Eastwod suffered an ankle injury in training.

The knock kept Eastwood out of United Reserves’ 1-1 draw with Southend on Wednesday night and the club reckon he’ll be ruled out for seven days at least.

Ryan Clarke will continue as first-choice between the sticks for tomorrow’s npower League Two derby at Wycombe.

But teenager Nathan Silver, who stepped in to play in the Totesport.com Combination fixture against Southend, is considered too young and inexperienced to be thrown in against the likes of title favourites Wycombe, and West Ham in the Carling Cup next Tuesday.

And it would be too big a risk to have him on the bench in case something did happen to Clarke.

Said U’s boss Chris Wilder: “We might have to go down the one-month loan road and we’ve already made some inquiries.

“We need to cover ourselves because we don’t know exactly how long Simon’s going to be out for. We feel it will be a week, but we have to be prepared.

“I’ve got young Nathan, but he’s not ready yet.”

The injury was a simple training ground accident that can happen anytime, said United’s manager.

“He just went over it,” he said.

“These things happen – there was a collision and contact, we’re just waiting for the injury to settle down.”

Meanwhile, Wilder will name an unchanged team for the match at Wycombe, as the U’s look for their first league win of the season.

“There’ll be no changes to the team because they deserve to go again,” he said.

“I think it’s a well-balanced side. The front three have been decent, the middle three have settled in.

“I don’t think there’ll be any surprises from us and I think their manager, Gary Waddock, will know that, so it’s as you are.”
