Oxford United players’ favourite Dannie Bulman admits it will be “strange” going back to his old club Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

It will be the first time the midfielder has returned to Adams Park since he left six years ago.

And the 31-year-old, who was part of the Wycombe team that famously reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 2002, says it will be nice to remind people there that he is still around, and can still play a bit.

Bulman, who won Oxford’s players’ player of the year award last season, made more than 240 appearances for the Chairboys in seven seasons from 1998-2004, but then dropped a level to play for Stevenage, Crawley and then Oxford.

He said: “I’ve not had the honour of going back to Wycombe since I left, so it will be strange.

“They didn’t want to come down to non-League, so I didn’t have the chance to play against them!

“There’s not many people I know there now, so it will be interesting to see the changes.”

Some Wycombe fans may have forgotten that one of the heroes of their epic FA Cup run under Lawrie Sanchez – when they even gave Liverpool a scare before going down 2-1 in the semi-final at Villa Park – will face them this week.

And Bulman is determined to put on a good show on Saturday.

“I’ll just let them know I’m still around, still alive and still trying to play football, and hopefully we can get a decent result there,” he said.

“That Cup run was one of the highlights of my career and probably the highlight of Wycombe’s history.

“I don’t think we were a particularly great side, we just had a good team spirit. It was down to momentum.

“I think the whole town went up to Villa Park.

“I’ve only got good memories of the club, but we’re working hard to get that first win that we want.”
