Daniel Rowe took a sensational hat-trick as Oxfordshire wrapped up a nine-wicket victory over Herefordshire at Banbury yesterday.

Rowe took the last three wickets of the Hereford innings – and four from just nine deliveries on the day – as Oxon raced home in the Western Division clash.

Richard Kaufman followed up his 90 off 80 balls in the first innings with 74 from 58 deliveries as Oxfordshire needed just 20 overs to reach their target.

Resuming on 173-5, the hosts were frustrated for the first hour as Atiq Chisti and Ed Bayliss stood firm.

But when Luke Ryan had Chisti caught at first slip by Craig Haupt for a steady 56, Oxfordshire could sense victory.

Rowe then ripped through the tail.

He had Daniel Vernon trapped leg before on the fourth ball of his spell.

Callum Stewart was then trapped in front off the first ball of his second over, before he bowled both Charlie Griffiths and Fred Eburah with successive deliveries to wrap-up the Herefordshire innings in style.

By co-incidence, the last hat-trick taken by an Oxfordshire player came from Ryan Newhook six years ago – against Herefordshire.

On that occasion Oxon won by 34 runs, Newhook’s haul helping dismiss their opponents for just 78 in their second innings.

Rowe finished with figures of 6-33 – his best return for the county.

Bayliss finished unbeaten on 55 to record his highest Minor Counties score.

Kaufman led the Oxfordshire charge as they wasted little time in wrapping up victory.

He and Damian Shirazi shared an opening stand of 105 before Kaufman was bowled by Griffiths for 74.

His 58-ball innings contained 15 fours and a six – meaning he ran just eight of his score.

Shirazi finished unbeaten on 31, with Haupt nine not out in an impressive victory.
