Danny Philliskirk says he is determined to make a big impression during his loan with Oxford United.

The 19-year-old Chelsea striker signed on Monday for the U’s on an initial one-month spell.

And the forward, who was signed by Jose Mourinho from Oldham three years ago, can’t wait to get started.

“It’s great to be here,” he said.

“I’m hoping that I can impress during my loan spell, get the fans on my side, and more importantly score some goals to help the team.

“I am really looking forward to it and want to enjoy myself.

“It’s a good pitch here, as well as great facilities and I can’t wait to get started.”

Able to play as a second striker or in midfield, Philliskirk started his career with Oldham, where his father, Tony is youth team coach, before Mourinho took him to Stamford Bridge for an undisclosed fee.

An England Under 17 international, Philliskirk captained the Chelsea youth side in 2008/9 and made the step up to reserve level last season.

“He’s a young prospect that I saw at Oldham as a kid and then Chelsea bought him for quite big money,” boss Chris Wilder told United’s website.

“It comes to a stage at 19 where he maybe needs to go and get involved with a senior club.

“We have good connections with Chelsea and went through the channels and they were happy for him to come out and gain experience.

“He is a young boy, but I think maybe people underestimate the level we are playing at now.

“We felt we needed an extra body in and he will benefit from the time here.

“Chelsea play in the three up front so he is used to playing in that. If he does well then he has a great opportunity here."
