Oxford's two universities have entered the Oxfordshire Cup for the 2010-11 season.

Oxford Brookes and Oxford University Greyhounds join six other clubs in the first round draw.

Brookes will host Oxford, with the Greyhounds, who won the cup in 1976, travelling to Banbury.

Henley, Oxford Harlequins and holders Chinnor will join the competition in the quarter-finals.

There is an intriguing clash in round one of the Oxfordshire Shield where defending champions Alchester will host Bicester – the side many of their players left to form the new club.

  • OXFORDSHIRE’S Bootleggers reached a semi-final and final at the Newquay Surf Sevens.

The club, who are managed by local referee Anthony Swift, roared into the last four of the Men’s Open, conceding just one try on the way.

Captained by former Oxford University man Mike Rickner, they swept aside Navy Sharks, Worcester Trojans and Newquay Hornets.

Bootleggers led Touraid Castaways 26-7 in their semi-final, but pressure and two injuries took their toll in a last gasp 33-26 defeat.

Their second team then went one better by reaching the final of the President’s Cup.

Led by Dave Fenlon, another ex-Oxford University player, Bootleggers cruised into the knockout stages.

Further victories came against Upton 49s, the Bearded Crows and the Handstand Quins – the latter a 17-12 success courtesy of Fenlon’s extra-time try.

Bootleggers went down 15-5 in the final to Swansea Warriors, who included a number of players with Wales sevens and Welsh Premiership experience.

They donated half their prize money to the Handstand charity.
