Carterton boss Steve Hale is hoping to boost his side's goals tally after capturing the prolific strikeforce of Alex Green and Steve Avenall from rivals Shrivenham.

Green scored 23 goals last season, while Avenall netted 17 times.

Goalkeeper Luke Alford and midfielder Andy Brien also join from the Wiltshire outfit.

Carterton have received another boost with Kevin Lewis, the Hellenic League Premier Division player of the season, agreeing to stay despite receiving approaches from several other clubs, including a Southern League outfit.

Although Karl Dodds and James Mortimer-Jones have left Carterton to join North Leigh, Matty Goodwin, Joe Wood, Mark Threlfall and Chris Blakely have all re-signed.

Witney United have snapped up former Witney Town favourite Andy Leach as part of their coaching team.

"I was looking for someone to work with the defence to bring a bit of discipline in," said manager Spencer Keyes.

"He brings to us years of Southern League experience and if 10 per cent of his enthusiasm rubs off on the players, we will see the benefits."

Matty Allen has signed on again, along with goalkeeper Paul Tassell and striker Danny Wise.

Joining the club are Ardley United duo Chris Johnson and Darren Clare.

Johnson, a midfielder, has previous experience with Bicester Town, Abingdon Town and Thame United, while Clare has been with Oxford City and Abingdon Town.

Clanfield host their Jim Newman Memorial Cup pre-season tournament again this year.

The first round draw pits them against Letcombe on July 25.

Other first-round games will see Abingdon Town take on a Witney & District FA XI on July 27.

Then on July 30, Headington Amateurs play North Leigh and Carterton take on Abingdon United.

Clanfield kick off their pre-season friendlies on July 22 when they host Highworth Town. They also entertain Milton United on July 29 and Aldbourne on August 5.

Banbury Unitedentertain League One new boys Cheltenham Town on Tuesday (7.45) in the first of their pre-season friendlies.
