Oxfordshire Under 17s put up a good battling display, but still went down by 28 runs to Cheshire in their ECB Women’s County Championship game at Oxford Downs on Monday.

Chasing 220 for victory, Oxon were given a strong start by Rhian Todd (32) and Abbie Currie (34) who put on 70 for the first wicket.

But thereafter the batting struggled with only skipper Emilia Bartram reaching 20.

Despite a healthy helping of 58 extras, which included 38 wides, Oxon were bowled out for 191 in 44.5 overs.

The Cheshire innings was dominated by opener Hannah Gradwell, who carried her bat for 121 not out off 159 balls as they amassed 219-2 from their 45 overs.

The Oxon bowlers contained Cheshire well, but just could not take wickets. Most economical was Elspeth Walker with 0-8 from her four overs.
