MATT Green believes “the world is Oxford United’s oyster”.

The striker, who this week joined the U’s permanently from Torquay, believes the momentum the team gained through winning the play-offs can take them a long way next season.

“It’s brilliant to have signed a new contract with Oxford and I’m really looking forward to playing in the league,” said the 23-year-old.

“We’ve definitely got a lot of momentum behind us and, as I said after we won at Wembley, I think the world’s our oyster,” added Green, who scored a brilliant opening goal in the 3-1 play-off final victory over York.

“I’ve seen the quality we’ve got on the training ground,” he said. “From the moment I arrived here, I saw that we had a really good chance and it was just great to be a part of it.

“Oxford can achieve great things – they’ve got everything, winning at Wembley, seeing the calibre of fans and support we’ve got, I really don’t so why we can’t have another successful season next year.”

Green has just returned from a holiday in Ibiza with his great friend and fellow U’s striker James Constable, and he admits they were spotted many times by Oxford United supporters in the bars on the Spanish island.

“Me and Beano have been out celebrating and have seen a few fans out there as well,” he said.

“It was good to see them, and they sang us a couple of songs!

“We were having a few beers – and they taste a lot better when you’ve had the season we’ve had.”

Many of the Premier League’s top international stars have not scored at Wembley, and certainly very few have scored as spectacular a goal as Green’s stunning half-volley.

“Yes, I’ve watched it a couple of times already and pressed pause at a few different angles!” he admitted.
