Oxford United have received an early summer boost with Wembley hot-shot Matt Green joining them permanently from Torquay, signing a two-year contract.

The clubs have reached an agreement over “compensation” for his development, as is necessary for a player under 24, in what is an undisclosed fee.

And the 23-year-old striker, who scored a stunning opening goal in United’s 3-1 play-off final win over York City, says he was delighted to stay with Oxford, having spent last season on loan, because he feels totally at home here.

In fact it’s the fourth time Green has signed for United.

He joined initially on a month’s loan from Cardiff, in November 2007, impressed enough to get taken on a few weeks later for a further three months, and then returned to Oxford a year ago, on loan from Torquay, having previously opted for the Devon club.

But he says the way the fans took him to their hearts after he admitted making a mistake by leaving, and the way they were through such a memorable 2009-10 campaign, only increased his desire to stay in the city.

“I'm glad to come back,” he said. “Every time I’ve come back it’s felt like home and now it’s officially my home.

“I'm absolutely buzzing still after us winning promotion,” said the striker, who has hit 20 goals in 42 starts for Oxford.

“The fans have taken me back, and the gaffer’s looked after me, as have the chairman and all the coaching staff. They have made me feel right at home.”

Green admitted a couple of other Football League clubs were chasing him, but he said: “I think I'd be silly to try and chase other things and worry about other things.

“I've got a home here, and as I have proved, when I am relaxed and am believed in a little bit, I’ve shown what I can do.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Billy Turley, 36, who was released by Oxford United last week, is joining Brackley Town on a two-year deal.

Turley, who lives in Oxford, joins former teammates Ray Warburton and Chris Willmott at the Northamptonshire club.

And former Oxford United defender Luke Foster has joined newly promoted Stevenage from Mansfield Town.
