Oracle's Pom Merola defeated New Club’s Alan King to clinch the Oxford & District League’s Turner Cup, writes Dick Hashman.

Merola always had his nose in front as he started with a break of 30, running out 250-232 winner.

Merola had beaten Riley B’s Doug Baker in the semi-final 250-167, aided by a 21 break, while King reached the final with a thrilling 250-245 win over Gordon Cook (Oracle).

Ashton booked their place in the final of the Atox Cup with a 4-3 victory over league champions New Club.

Terry Chambers won both his games against Alan King, 75-71, 75-35.

Alan Mander hit back with a 75-54, 75-58 success against John Street.

In the decider, Pete Fenn and Dave White traded frames, Fenn winning the first 75-62 and White the second 75-69.

With frame scores level, Ashton went through 406-393 on aggregate.

There was a similar outcome in the other semi-final between Oracle and Fieldside.

Ted Milsom and Norman Woodcock shared the opening frames, before Lee Pratley beat Mike Chapman 75-18, 75-53.

Paul Robinson beat Cook 75-73, 75-38 in the final frames, helped by a break of 42.

Oracle went through, courtesy of a 373-355 points aggregate.
