Sutton Courtenay AC stalwart Phil Boyes, a member for more than 60 years and a committee man for some 40 of them, has died aged 77 after a short illness.
To honour this commitment to the club, last year they named a lake after him which is now known as ‘Phil’s Lake’.
Not only was he a committed member of the club, he was a genuine sort of chap and someone I will miss personally as he would give me Sutton Courtenay’s match results on occasions.
I am sure the Sutton Courtenay match scene won’t be the same without him.
l THE second round of this year’s Predator Spring League was fished by 21 matchmen at Lower Court Farm, Chadlington, where a strong wind made presentation difficult for some.
At the final whistle, Matt Ryman (Predator) emerged the victor with a net of carp, tench and orfe weighing 60.0.0.
He used a pole at 16 metres into open water, alternating between maggot and caster.
Runner-up Craig Partridge fished pellet at 11 metres and caught carp, skimmers and roach for 42.0.0.
Series organiser Tony Wright snagged third place with 33.11.0. He used pellet at 11 metres into open water, catching mainly carp with the odd tench, skimmers and a grass carp.
