Abingdon's unbeaten middleweight, Jake Guntert, returns to the ring tomorrow seven months after his last fight.

The 23-year-old who has won all six of his professional bouts, is on the bill against Gosport's Steve Ede at the York Hall, Bethnal Green.

Ede is also unbeaten, so this is likely to be Guntert's toughest test as he attempts to be in touching distance of a Southern Area or British Masters title by the end of the year.

"I gather Ede is about 5ft 10ins, which could give him a reach advantage," said Guntert, who is making only his second appearance in the ring in 15 months because of injury.

"Training has gone well, and I'm confident I can beat him."

Guntert, who is managed by Frank Maloney, will have about 80 supporters from Abingdon cheering him on."

BERINSFIELD'S Christy Collins picked up his fourth win after a terrific scrap with Aylesham's John Norris in Norfolk.

The pair traded non-stop punches for first two rounds, but the Berinsfield schoolboy had more to offer for the final 90 seconds.

Berinsfield's Will Joyce, 13, was quick to gain a comprehensive points victory over his taller Aylesham rival Steve Palmer.

Clubmate Arthur McDonagh, 14, dominated his light flyweight clash with David Goreham from the bell.

Landing neat rights off the jab to both head and body, the Berinsfield youngster cruised to a decisive winning margin.

Jye Holland, 14, adopted the same approach in his clash with William Tabb from the same club and lost on a wafer-thin margin.

Despite imposing a standing count after landing a crunching left-right combination during the middle round, James McDonagh, 15, was unfortunate to emerge on the wrong side of a split decision after his clash with Essex rival Kevin Tansley.

Will Healy and John Collins endured a fruitless journey on the ten-hour return trip after their scheduled opponents failed the pre-tournament medicals.

THE Blackbird Leys gym returned with two wins out of three from their excursion to Highbridge in Somerset.

Heavyweight Angus Lowe was quick to impose his authority over Phil White, from the host King Alfred club, by landing a succession of neatly-executed combinations off the jab.

Lightweight Wesley Cyprien collected a second win for the Blackbird Leys stable with a unanimous victory over Andy Dodd, also from the host gym.
