BORIS Johnson is supporting the Oxford Mail's bid to bring the Solheim Cup to The Oxfordshire in 2011.
The Henley MP, whose constituency includes the club, believes hosting the 'women's Ryder Cup' would be a massive boost for the area.
He said: "I am proud to declare my support for the Oxford Mail's campaign to bring The Solheim Cup to The Oxfordshire.
"The Solheim Cup is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious events in ladies' golf.
"It would be tremendous to see some of the best players in the world here in England and to promote one of the fastest-growing women's sports in the UK.
"In addition, the tournament would provide a massive boost for local jobs, tourism and businesses in Oxfordshire."
The Leaderboard Group, which owns The Oxfordshire, is expected to inject more than £800,000 to help secure the event ahead of rival bids from Spain and Italy.
Johnson added: "The Leaderboard Group has already established a distinguished reputation for hosting top-class events, such as the Ladies' English Open, and has a proven track record of promoting and supporting women's golf.
"I wish all concerned the very best of luck in the bid process."
