oWorking with pole and pellet fished shallow, he plundered carp to 6lb, finishing some way clear of second-placed Andy Benwell who totalled 117.4.0 of big carp on catmeat, fished in the margins.

Dave Hawkins was third with 117.0.0 on pellet up in the water.

The match produced no fewer than eight weights of more than the 100lb mark, testimony to the class of angler fishing this league.

The Post Office AC enjoyed a first-class service at Lower Court on Sunday where winner Frank Hardie drew the deep end of the lake and cast a waggler towards the island to take 86.2.0 of carp and skimmers on caster.

Roger Burton was pegged next to the winner and also fished waggler and caster for a 37.8.0 second-placed bag, followed by Paul McGrath with 30.2.0.

K & M Tackle's Open at Ryehill near Banbury was a patchy affair, with the fish shoaled up tight.

The Bank Holiday Monday match at Panshill was won by Bicester angler Barry Eddy with 25.3.0 of carp on the long pole and maggot.

Kevin Simpson was runner-up with 23.3.0 of orfe and carp on the pole and maggot, with Nick Bryan third with 14.3.0.

A bumper turn-out of 28 anglers assembled for the latest North Oxford match on the Oxford Canal at Wolvercote Green. The cut was in generous mood with five and six-pound weights common- place.

Kidlington ace Alan Middleton started the match on chopped worm, taking some quality perch and skimmers, before switching to pinkie over groundbait to record an impressive win with 13.1.0.

Second-placed Jason Bean continued his fine run with 12.7.0 of perch and skimmers on similar tactics.

Dave Scott-Picton enjoyed a midweek practice session on the venue, but unfortunately drew the same peg on Sunday. He finished third with 9.5.0 on the punch.
