WALLINGFORD gained a psychological edge ahead of the Oxfordshire Shield final with a 14-13 home win over Gosford All Blacks.

But even the home side admitted they had been fortunate to secure victory through Don Jenkins's last-minute penalty.

Wallingford had the better of the early exchanges and went ahead on 15 minutes with a penalty from skipper Olli Henderson.

Gosford equalised with a penalty from scrum half Tim Sutton, but fell behind with another Henderson three-pointer after what they felt was a harsh decision from referee Ian Bingfield.

On the half-hour mark, Wallingford scrum half Derek Viljoen broke from 30 metres out to score, but Henderson fluffed the conversion.

Flanker Carl Hayes and props Lee Donnelly and Will Machin set up a try for Sutton just before the break.

Wallingford struggled in the second half, but Sutton's two penalty misses kept it close.

Gosford lock Rod Rhymes forced his way over to give his side a deserved lead on 65 minutes.

Wallingford rallied, but it looked as if Gosford would hold on until Jenkins's kick.

Bicester No 8 Martin Linstrom capped a virtuoso performance with a dazzling hat-trick of tries in their 20-5 victory at Drifters.

The visitors took the lead after 22 minutes when scrum half Dickie Walsh linked with fly half Steve Risbridger to send Linstrom in.

On 40 minutes, Bicester hooker Steve Barnes heeled a scrum against the head and Linstrom scuttled over, Risbridger converting.

Centre Alex Coombs scored a try for Drifters, but Risbridger's penalty made it 15-5 after some intense pressure.

Linstrom burst in from 20 metres to complete his treble after good work from Barnes and prop Nick Evans.

Littlemore lost 71-14 at home to Swindon College, while Oxford were beaten 70-14 at Newbury Stags.
