Witney's Oxfordshire Cup semi-final against Wallingford will now be played on Sunday, March 28.

Hosts Witney wanted to play the match last Sunday, while Wallingford were hoping to play on April 3, which is Easter Saturday, but an agreement has now been reached.

Witney chairman Danny Crump stressed there had been plenty of communication between the two clubs after the draw was made on February 9.

He said: “We notified Wallingford the day after the draw that we wanted to play on February 28.

“Then on February 16, we had a reply from them asking to play on the Saturday – kicking off at the same time as the England v Ireland match.

“Wallingford approached us to play on that day, so to say they had no notice is simply not true.

“We would not have wanted to play midweek under lights as we would have lost our home advantage and there would have been no income from the bar, but we didn’t want to play on Easter Saturday!”

  • OXFORD University wing Sean Morris scored a try as England Students defeated Irish Colleges 42-9 at a snowy Druid Park, Gosforth.

Morris’s fellow Dark Blue speedster Tim Catling was on target for the Barbarians on Tuesday night.

But his try could not stop them losing 50-14 to Bedford in the Mobbs Memorial Match at Goldington Road.
