Oxford Harlequins will host rivals Chinnor Oxfordshire Cup if they can win through to the semi-finals.

Quins must defeat Grove on Sunday and then Henley 2nd in the quarter-finals, but the cup holders will be clear favourites to set up a pulsating clash at the Southern Bypass ground.

To add to the drama, Chinnor wing Richard Williams pulled out the away sides when the draw was made after their victory over Bicester.

Bicester’s Paul Chrisp drew the home sides, with Wallingford visiting Witney in the other semi-final.

In the Oxfordshire Shield, Alchester, who face Abingdon at Banbury tonight, or Harwell will host Oxford in the last four.

Meanwhile, Quins director of rugby John Brodley admitted his side have plenty of room for improvement.

Quins may be a creditable fourth in the National 3 South West table, but they were exposed in Saturday’s 35-19 home defeat to Weston-super-Mare.

Brodley said: “The players have held their hands up and said their discipline needed to be better.

“They are really disappointed with the way they played.

“It just shows that we have the ability to switch off, but don’t have the ability to switch back on.

“We really need to play for the whole game because when we do, we can play really well.

“I think we probably missed Andy Boyle and Morgan Cross’s tenacity in the second row.

“I’m sure once we’ve got over this disappointment, we’ll look forward to a double-header against Chippenham in the league and Grove in the Oxfordshire Cup.”

Also on the Quins front, Oxford University captain Nick Haydon expects to be available for most of their remaining fixtures afer making his debut against Weston.

The Australian scrum half said: “It would be no good to just play every second week.

“It is great to play some rugby on a Saturday and get a good club feel.”

Haydon was immediately cajoling his new teammates into action on Saturday.

“It comes with being a scrum half, but I want to get settled here first,” he said.

“I’m just here to help out.

“Once we get a couple of matches under our belts we’ll see what can happen.”
