Abingdon United were made to work hard for a 2-0 victory at basement boys Bracknell Town in the Zamaretto Southern League tonight.

Two second half goals made the difference in the Division 1 South & West clash after Bracknell had had the better of the opening period.

The hosts missed a number of opportunities and were punished on the hour mark when Abingdon’s John Mills fired home.

Abingdon controlled the game after that, but it was not until five minutes from time that Jeff Brown secured the points by finishing a move he had started with a shot into the roof of the net.

In the Premier Division, Banbury United were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Chippenham Town, whose goalkeeper Chris Snoddy was in inspired form.

Chippenham’s best chance saw Shaun Benson head wide on 24 minutes, while Banbury’s George Redknap missed a great chance seven minutes later.

Snoddy pulled off fine saves from David Stone in either half and denied Adam Learoyd from Banbury’s final decent chance.
