Oxford City boss Mike Ford has called on his side to cut out sloppy defensive mistakes, starting with Tuesday night’s Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division trip to Truro City, which is in serious doubt because of the winter weather.

Over the holiday, City drew with Didcot and Bashley, but Ford saw it as four points lost.

“We would have been fourth had we held on in those games, but we showed a bit of naivety and conceded goals in the last minute,” he said.

“Our work ethic was tremendous in both games and I thought we were magnificent against Bashley. But we must stop giving away silly goals.”

City will be without Michael Lyon (unavailable), and Ford said it would give them the chance to test out striker Lee Steele alongside fellow frontman Jon Douglas.

Ford added: “They haven’t played together yet, because of Lee’s injury, so this is the ideal game for them.”

Didcot Town boss Stuart Peace is looking for his side to keep up the good work when they host Nuneaton Town – though the match is in serious doubt with snow and frost on the Loop Meadow Stadium.

Didcot drew 4-4 with Oxford City on Boxing Day, and Peace said: “Although we didn’t win, I thought they had a lot of the play, but we shaded it on chances.

“We want to use that display as a platform in the league, but it’s very frustrating not being able to play. We have been training when we can at Tilsley Park, but that is fully booked up.”

Abingdon United travel to Taunton Town in Division 1 South & West, while Banbury United are hoping to take on Oxford United in a friendly at Spencer Stadium, but again, both games are in doubt.
