Oxfordshire Senior Cup

Garsington 0, Kidlington 1

Kidlington edged into the third round after a narrow victory at Garsington as they beat the freeze on Saturday.

The Oxfordshire Senior League side’s cause was not helped as they had two players sent off in the second half.

The pitch at Garsington was in good condition considering the cold weather, and the visitors were quick out of the blocks.

Jimmy Deabill set up Jack Quainton in the seventh minute, only for Garsington keeper Chris Flowers to save well.

A good move led to what proved the only goal.

Quainton played a ball across the six-yard area for the prolific Luke Holden to finish smartly.

Kidlington old boy Liam O’Callaghan nearly pulled Garsington level, but Kidlington captain Danny Leggett made an excellent tackle.

In the second half, Lewis Coyle saw a rasping shot come back off a post as the pitch began to freeze up again.

After a rash of yellow cards for the home side, Garsington almost snatched an equaliser when Jerome Constant’s rasping drive was superbly saved by Tom McNamara in the Kidlington goal.

Garsington’s indiscipline cost them late on as first skipper Colin Ryan received a red card for a bad foul, and then Aaron Armstrong got his marching orders with a second yellow card, meaning the home side finished with only nine men.

l THE continued freeze pl-ayed havoc to the rest of the weekend programme.

North Leigh’s home Zamaretto Southern League clash with Cirencester Town and Abingdon United’s game with Hungerford were postponed, as was all but one Hellenic League match, Reading Town’s match at Ascot United.
