Oxfordshire ladies champion Jane Binning could not recover from a nightmare first round as she missed the cut at European Tour qualifying school in Spain.

The 27-year-old Frilford Heath member shot an 18-over-par 91 on La Manga’s South Course, then followed it with a far more respectable 74 on the North Course.

This gave her a 21-over-par total, while the cut for final qualifying fell at 11-over.

Binning shot five double bogies in her 91, but bounced back with three birdies in her second.

Woburn’s Tilly Magill (nee Holder), who represents Oxfordshire, just missed out on final qualifying after rounds of 81 and 75 gave her a 12-over-par total of 156.

Magill’s campaign got off to a flier with consecutive birdies in her opening round on the North Course, but seven straight bogies ultimately put paid to her hopes.

Meanwhile, Terry Howse continued his winning ways with success in the club’s Turkey Trot on countback from Martin Parry with 42 points.

Pete Madeley was third with 41 points.

George Kay won the Junior Stableford event with 32 points ahead of Chris Dyer.
