Taunton Tn 0
Abingdon Utd 2 (Beechers 32, Faulkner 44) – abandoned half-time, waterlogged pitch)
Abingdon United were left cursing their luck after their Division 1 South & West clash was abandoned at half-time because of a waterlogged pitch.
Andy Slater’s side looked certain to take the points after storming into a 2-0 lead.
Despite hours of heavy rain before the game, the referee gave the match the go-ahead and visitors were quickly out of the blocks, James Faulkner firing wide after a superb run.
Abingdon thought they had broken the deadlock when John Mills ran through onto a super pass from Ben Weedon and flicked the ball wide of the keeper, only for the effort to be ruled offside.
At the other end, Simon Goodrham headed a goalbound shot off the line as Taunton tried to get back into the game, before Billy Beechers crashed the ball home with a clinical finish for Abingdon’s opener.
Mills had a shot saved as Abingdon turned up the heat and they were rewarded when Faulkner latched on to a through ball before finishing with ease.
But with the rain continuing, the referee called time, so Abingdon will face a midweek trip to Somerset at a date to be arranged.
Abingdon Utd: Beames, Brown, Weedon, Peirson, Franklin, McCal-mon, Beechers, Goodrham, Mills, Faulkner, Ricketts. Subs not used: Elkins, Haysham, Hunt.
