Gavin Jones scored a late winner for Wantage as they edged a seven-goal thriller at Binfield in the Premier Division on Saturday.

And they did it the hard way, coming from behind before snatching victory after a Richard Claydon’s hat-trick brought them level.

Early on, Ryan Milward hit the Wantage bar before Binfield took the lead through James Suarez, while Matt Biddle was off the field having treatment for a broken nose.

It would have been 2-0 early in the second-half, but Sam Belcher made a brilliant goalline clearance.

Minutes later, Richard Claydon levelled after Tom Austin’s shot was parried by the keeper, before Wantage took the lead through Claydon’s penalty after Liam McCullough was fouled.

The visitors went further ahead when Claydon curled in No 3 for his hat-trick.

Tim Walsh and a Jack Tallentire penalty saw Binfield level, only for Jones to head the Wantage winner from Tom Austin’s cross.

Kidlington 4 (Parker 9, Weedon 21, Holden 30, Fincher 81)

Kidlington increased basement Boys’ Hook Norton’s misery with a professional performance.

The visitors opened their account early on when Jordan Parker headed Lewis Coyle’s cross in off the bar.

Hooky’s Pete Moulder then also hit the bar, before Chris Weedon made it 2-0 with a neat chip after Luke Holden’s effort was palmed out.

It was all over by the half-hour mark when Holden sidefooted home from close range.

After the break, Sam Fincher wrapping it up with No 4 after a rare mistake from keeper Joe White.

Abingdon Tn 3 (Barson 19, Edney 29, Fowler 65)

Abingdon Town put in their best performance of the season against in-form Highworth.

Liam Barson fired Town in front with a 25-yard shot and doubled their lead with a close-range volley from Graham Edney to leave Highworth, who were unbeaten in six games, reeling.

In the second-half, Abingdon maintained their high tempo with Drew Fowler crashing home their third after good work from Danny Thomas.

Witney went down to their first defeat since early October following a disappointing display at Pegasus.

Playing against the wind before the break, Chris Harper went close with a glancing header before the home side struck twice just after the half-hour.

The opener came when Mike Symonds fired home at the back post.Six minutes later a mistake by Lee Henderson allowed Jamie Cuss to cross for Price who made no mistake.

Witney thought they had scored when Stuart Cattell’s effort was held by the keeper Stuart Turpin over the line, but the referee ruled otherwise.

Two minutes from time, Anaclet Odhiambo clawed one back from a Vinny Byfield flick-on, but they couldn’t fashion a leveller.

Milton won local bragging rights with a hard-fought win at a rainlashed Heights in the Division 1 East derby match in the FTL Futbol Hellenic league.

The hosts dominated from the off and took the lead on the half-hour mark when Mark Alleyne side-footed home.

It could have been 2-0 minutes later, but Matthew Drake struck the foot of a post.

Didcot levelled from the penalty spot through Adam Bruce and they looked the more likely to take all the points, only for Tom Gooding to fire the winner with a superb free-kick in the dying seconds.
