OXFORD City Stars made amends for a mauling on the Isle of Wight as they beat Milton Keynes Thunder 4-1 on Sunday in Division 1 South.

Stars crashed to a 5-1 defeat away to Wightlink Raiders on Saturday, but they hit back in style less than 24 hours later to sink Thunder.

Stars welcomed back Dean Francis, Nick Oliver and Mike Lucas, who all missed the Wightlink match, although they were without Andy Cox, who had picked up an injury on the island.

Thunder had former Stars coach Darryl Morvan on their bench, and the first period was scoreless.

A penalty against Thunder’s ex-Oxford player Matt Roberts early in the second period gave Stars a powerplay, and it was during this that Joe Boot fired home the opening goal.

Jamie Holland equalised for Thunder, but Ken Forshee struck to restore Stars’ lead as the period came to an end.

The third period followed a similar pattern to the second.

Forshee bagged his second goal in the 51st minute, Grant Bailey providing the assist.

Bailey then wrapped up the victory with No 4, scoring with a vicious slapshot to make it 4-1.

The stormy weather made for a difficult journey to the Isle of Wight, and with Francis, Oliver, Lucas, Will Scaife, and Dax Hedges all missing, Stars were always up against it.

The home side went in front after eight minutes, but Stars pulled level in the second period via a Darren Elliott goal.

Shannon Taylor almost put Stars in front, only to see the puck come back off the crossbar.

The third period started with Oxford on a powerplay, but despite their advantage, Wightlink regained their lead with a breakaway goal.

Raiders bagged a third goal in the 59th minute, and with Stars going all-out for a reply, having pulled their netminder off, the home side managed two more goals to wrap up a convincing victory.
