Mo Baba-Zadeh was unchallenged in the Class B (ten to 20 bouts) middleweight category at the Home Counties ABA Senior Novices Championship at Luton.

And the Oxford Boxing Academy ace now progresses to the next stage of the title trail as the Home Counties host the Combined Services in Reading on Sunday, November 29.

That marks the start of a busy period for the second year business and management student – he will represent Oxford Brookes at the National University championships in Coventry on December 12 and 13.

Baba-Zadeh is joined in his quest against the military by Banbury’s Imitaz Khandoka who had a walkover in the Class B light welterweight division.

But Wesley Avery, from the same ‘Spit ‘n’ Sawdust’ outfit was unlucky not to join them after a determined display in the Class A (less than ten bouts) final against Callum Watson from Luton Farley ABC.

This was nip-and-tuck throughout three absorbing rounds, with the Hertfordshire man gaining the edge on a close decision from the judges. The Home Counties stages of the competition are concluded tomorrow night (8pm) as Berinsfield ABC stage their next dinner show at the Rover Cowley Sports & Social Club in Roman Way.

The remaining three Senior Novice finals form part of an 18-bout programme with National Schoolboy champion Jordan Flynn amongst the host club’s contingent set to display their skills in the ring. Tickets, priced at £35, can be obtained from Mel Corrigan by calling 07860 156950.

Some standing only tickets, priced at £10, are also available.
