Three Pigeons’ Neil Lyon retained the Oxford Singles trophy with a 2-0 win over Kevin Giles (George Littlemore) at a packed Rover Sports & Social Club, writes ANDY BEAL.

Lyon set the first leg with a respectable four, and Giles fell just shy with three.

Giles set the next leg, but could again muster only three, and Lyon struck with his first two and last two sticks to take victory 4-3, 4-3.

Cricketers beat Six Bells Kidlington 2-0 in the Greene King Cup.

Six Bells set 23 in the opening leg which the Cricketers passed with ease with two players spare, and then set 32 in the next leg.

The Kidlington side fell short with 28, despite a six from Steve Horn and a five from Dick Walsh.

Jon Townsend starred for the Cricketers with two fives.

There were new names on the Oxford Pairs Trophy as Six Bells’ Pete Rampton and Steve Ward beat the Cricketers’ Phil Wilkins and Townsend.

Cricketers set both legs with five, and each time Rampton started with a two before Ward bagged a brace of fours to take victory.

The Monty Greenaway Fours produced some good throwing as Cricketers A pipped Cricketers B 2-1.

The A team lost the opening leg 17-16, before being set 16 in the second leg.

Anchor man Den Sellar came to the A team’s rescue clanging off the five dolls needed to level the match.

The B side set 11 in the decider, and again Sellar knocked of the winning doll to give the A team victory.

Fairview’s Glyn Millard beat Littlemore Rugby Club’s Lee Gillett 2-1 in the Ted Houghton Singles, with the final decided by throw of a single stick.

With the match level at 1-1, the last leg was tied 3-3 on six sticks and 2-2 on three sticks, before Millard eventually took it 1-0 in a one-stick shoot-out.

The first leg had been tied 1-1, with Gillett taking it on three sticks, before Millard levelled with a 4-2 win in the next.

Team Monarch’s Keith Bull and Darren Cox won the Lower Pairs 2-0 against Jolly Postboys’ Dave Soanes and Antony Hayes.

The Dogwood’s Alan Holt and Paul Holt lifted the Parent & Child Cup with a 2-1 win against the Cricketers’ Phil and Bryan Adams.

The Holts won the opening leg on three sticks after the leg was tied 5-5.

The Adams set seven in the next, including a six from Phil Adams, which was enough as the Holts replied with four.

The decider also went to three sticks after the leg was tied 7-7, and it was the Holts who came out on top.
