Leigh Clapton has become the first player to emulate his father by being crowned Abingdon & District League's singles champion.

The 40-year-old, who throws for Abingdon United FC, defeated 'Laddie' Moody (Steventon Sports) 4-3, 5-4 to lift the crown 21 years after his dad Brian achieved the feat.

Brian admitted jumping in the air as his son, who also captured the league's top dolls trophy, landed his first title during finals night at his home venue.

When Clapton senior won his title in 1988, the man he beat in the final was Barry Parker, who actually reached the semi-finals this year before losing to Moody.

Parker (Fox Steventon), who lost in another final, had the consolation of winning the Secretary’s Cup,
