Oxford Hawks Ladies fell to only their second Division 1 defeat this season as a strong Reading 1A beat them 3-2 at Banbury Road North.

Hawks felt they were unlucky not to get something from the game, especially after starting it well.

Kelly Fogden fired them in front in the third minute, and they looked set to dominate with composed play.

Yet Reading stormed back with three goals before half-time.

The second half was far better for Hawks, who showed more maturity with improved defensive play, and they moved the ball quickly around the park.

Henri Coles brought the home side back into the match three minutes into the second half with a top-of-the-D strike from good quick team play.

And Hawks were unfortunate not to equalise, going very close at one short corner.

Rover Oxford remain without a win after going down 3-0 at home to Epsom.

Hayley Sawyer was denied her first goal of the season when her quick shot struck a post, with the score goalless.

Quick reactions and turnovers from Epsom enabled them to attack and break through Rover’s line-up.

In Division 2, Oxford University lost 3-2 at Teddington.

Banbury stay top of Division 3A despite a 1-1 draw at home to Oxford Hawks 2nd.

Just before the break, Hawks were awarded a penalty stroke when the ball was stopped on the line from a short corner, and Sjouke Tolsma converted.

Banbury equalised within five minutes of the restart when Ali Sturla’s short was deflected in by a defender.

West Witney came back from 2-0 down after ten minutes to draw 4-4 at Wycombe.

Karen Easterbrook started the fightback with an individual effort, and then Joy Mangazi scored her first hat-trick of the season, linking well with Sadie Lapper.

City of Oxford followed up successive draws with an excellent 2-0 win over high-flying West Hampstead.

A Rachel Lammey shot was touched in by Anna Nicholson, and City of Oxford then made it two before half-time whe, from lammey’s pass, Rachel Stokes tucked the ball home.
