New fly half Mark Chase kicked a drop goal in the dying seconds to give Chinnor a dramatic 12-10 victory at home to Reading.
With the referee shaping to blow for full-time, Chinnor’s new signing from Buckingham coolly slotted the ball between the posts from 40 metres.
Full back James Cathcart’s penalty had given Chinnor a fifth-minute lead, which they held on to at the break.
Cathcart and Reading’s Rob Smart exchanged penalties in the second half.
But then disaster struck for Chinnor when Cathcart, attempting to field an up and under, spilled the ball straight into the hands of pacy Reading centre Sam Speight, who went over for a try. Smart converted to give Reading a 10-6 lead.
With Cathcart being replaced, James Hewitt reduced Reading’s lead to 10-9 with a penalty before Chase took centre stage at the death.
