Michael Darby hit the winning runs as Great & Little Tew won a thrill-ing final against Hors-path by one wicket with two balls to spare on Sunday, writes KIEREN BUSHNELL.

At one stage, it had looked as though Tew, runners-up last season, would cruise to victory, having restricted Horspath to just 114-7 from their 20 overs.

But they reckoned without a spirited Horspath fightback, which made for a tense and exciting finish.

Batting first, Horspath struggled to get going in the face of some tight bowling.

Joe Todd and Daniel McNiffe shared 34 for the first wicket, but a clatter of wickets in the middle order, brought about by Harry Smith, who finished with three victims, left Horspath off the pace.

Had it not been for a quickfire 28 down the order from Ceri Holmes, Horspath would have struggled to make 100.

In reply, Tew got off to a flying start with Jack Taylor and Harry Smith dispatching the ball to all parts.

Smith fell for 15, while skipper Ed Gross scored 16.

But with Taylor (47) looking in fine form, Tew were seemingly cruising in at 79-2.

However, Taylor fell to an amazing one-handed catch at short cover by Ben Henderson off Tom Price, who turned the game on its head with four wickets in his four overs.

The match went into the final over with Tew needing five to win.

A couple of dot balls were followed by a Darby four through mid-wicket, before the Oxfordshire youngster held his nerve to smash the penultimate ball of the match back past the bowler to seal victory and the Honey-B Trophy.
