OXFORDSHIRE Under 15 girls ended the season with a 158-run victory over Isle of Wight to secure second place in the South Section of the ECB Under 15 County Championship.

Oxon batted first, and they produced a fine scoring rate as they posted an impressive 205-9 from their 35 overs.

Linsey Smith top-scored with 49, while captain and opener Rhian Todd hit 41.

Oxon looked vulnerable at 111-7, but this brought Eleanor Millward and Smith together, and the pair added 76 for the eighth wicket.

Needing a run a ball, the Isle of Wight looked for every single, and this proved their downfall.

Oxon claimed four run outs, while the other wickets were shared around as the home side fell to just 47 all out.

This capped a strong league performance for Oxon, who won eight of their ten matches.

Finishing scond in their section, Oxon had the chance to progress to the national quarter-finals as one of the best runners-up, but missed out to Lancashire on net run rate.

  • SAM Moore took 4-16 as Oxfordshire Under 17 girls beat Somerset by 46 runs in the ECB County Championship.

Batting first, Oxon were all out for 107, Ellie Porter top-scoring with 29 and Gemma Muttitt chipping in with 19.

In reply, Moore, backed up by Linsey Smith (2-16) and Muttitt (2-10), bowled out Somerset for 61.
