The preliminary round of the men’s Seven-a-Side Cup in the Greene King ODDA Summer League produced a shock when Section 5 side Blackbird Bar A sent visiting Section 2 outfit Chequers crashing out.

Chequers looked set fair when they led 3-1, but Blackbird had other ideas as Peter Tarry, Dave Howlett and Adam Berry secured a surprise 4-3 win.

Marsh Harrier A (Section 4) led 1-0 through Steve James at East Oxford Conservative Club, before the home side stormed back to triumph 4-1.

Other winners: Bullnose Morris A, Marston British Legion A, North Oxford Conservative Club, Folly Bridge Inn, Quarry Gate, Cricketers.

In the ladies’ Seven-a-Side Cup, Section 3 outfit South Oxford SC led Berinsfield Community Centre B 2-0 thanks to Michelle Smith and Marie O’Sullivan.

But the Section 1 side rallied and victories from Gemma Dumper, Phil Young, Sam Moore and Caz Chorley saw them get home 4-2.

Quarry Gate C (Section 1) proved too strong for Railway Social Club A.

The Gate got off to a great start when Sue Poyser, Sam Merrifield and Greta Britnell gave them a 3-0 lead and although Railway pulled one back through Rose Robinson, Maggie Dexter-Naylor sealed it for Quarry.

Other winners: Prince of Wales A, Gladiators B, Shelley Arms, Vikings SC, Red Lion, Original Swan, Florence Park Community Centre C, Folly Bridge Inn, East Oxford Con Club, Cricketers B, Quarry Gate D.

Top five:1 G Manning 38pts, 2 J Jukes 37, 3 T Woods 33, 4 S Tricker 31, 5 P Addison 31.
