Ashley Walton clinched his second Frilford Heath Gold Medal victory after a fine second round on the Green Course.

The Frilford member and BB&O champion, who also won the event in 2004, edged out William Ellis (De Vere Carden Park) by one shot.

Walton was five shots off the pace after carding a two-over-par 74 on the Blue Course, but his two-under-par 67 on the Green was enough for the title.

Lee Wanklyn (Sand Martins) finished third on 143, while first-round leader Ashley Watkins (Burnham Beeches) held on for fourth on countback.

Luke Williams, the BB&O junior champion and also a member of Frilford, won the prize for the best gross score on the Green Course with a 66.

Miles Collins (Stoke-by-Nayland) won the same prize for the Blue Course with a 69.

Eddie Pepperell will represent England in the European Boys Team Championship at Golf de Pan near Utrecht, Netherlands, from July 7-11.

The 18-year-old Drayton Park member is in a team of six as England bid to improve on last year’s third-place finish.

Pepperell made his full England debut in the 2008 Home Internationals, but has yet to hit top form this year.

Frilford Heath's ladies secured a 4-1 victory over Stratford-upon-Avon in the sixth round of the Mail on Sunday competition played on their Blue Course.

The team of Kate Evans, Caroline Pearce, Sara Alden, Sue Russell and Angela Tyreman all had tight matches ending at the 17th or 18th holes.

Frilford, who are seeking to make the national final in Spain, have drawn another home match in the seventh round against Northamptonshire County to be played before July 12.

Frilford Heath will host the Virgin Atlantic PGA National Pro-Am Championship at Frilford Heath on June 22.

Pairs from Tadmarton Heath, Waterstock and The Wychwood are involved.
