Oxford captain Jason Harrison says his side are “very confident” for tomorrow’s Division 1 derby at Banbury.

If league positions are anything to go by, leaders Banbury should provide Oxford’s toughest test so far.

Harrison stressed that match would not be decisive for either team at this stage, but is relishing the challenge.

“At this stage we are just looking to be as professional as possible,” he said.

“We’ll be going out with a very confident attitude as we do with every game.

“Banbury have proved this year what a good side they are.

“They are top of the table and there is a reason why.

“We are going to go there with respect, but with confidence and belief.

“When you are playing against people you know well there is that little bit extra in the game.

“The players are really looking forward to it.”

Harrison has named the same squad as would have played last week had the rain not intervened.

This means Northants-contracted seamer Jack Brooks is included, while Richard Gilbert misses out, despite being named in the Oxfordshire side for Sunday.

Harrison, who captains Buckinghamshire, and Banbury & Oxfordshire skipper Ian Hawtin could also have been rivals on Sunday.

Oxon finished second in their MCCA Trophy group on net run-rate, but had they come top, they would have been hosting Bucks in the quarter-finals.

Simon Hole returns for Banbury, but fellow batsman Chris Smith is unavailable.

Hawtin said: “These are always keenly contested matches.

“It is still very early in the season, but we’ll just try and keep our league form going.”

Aston Rowant and Thame Town each make three changes for their Division 2 West derby at Butts Way.

Rowant welcome back Rory Lyon, Lee Lewis and Paul Plumridge, with Ryan Dutton, Chris Eaton and Tom Needham dropping out.

Captain Wes Morrick was left disappointed his side could not build on a fine victory over Gerrards Cross when they were rained off at Finchampstead last week.

“Like us Finchampstead were keen as mustard to get a game going, and we warmed up twice, but it kept hosing down,” he said.

“Saturday is a big, big game for us. The boys are very much up for it.”

For Thame, spinner Steve Merry makes his first seasonal debut following work commitments in USA.

Ed Barnett and skipper Rob Brooks also return, with Tom Hogan, Angus Lachlan and Chris Jeaffcock missing out.

Brooks said: “The team batting first has done well this season at Rowant, but I think it will come down to the toss on Saturday as there has been so much rain around.

“If the wicket is green, then it is clear what you have to do.”
